In fact, with these “ready-to-plant ” containers made from renewable plant-based raw materials rather than petroleum resources, there are no more used pots to throw away!
We present all the advantages of plants grown in biodegradable pots, for practical, eco-responsible gardening!

What is a biodegradable pot?
A biodegradable pot is a horticultural container made from natural materials such as wood fiber.
What makes them special? They can be planted directly in the ground (in the garden or in a window box)! As they decompose, they nourish the soil and encourage root growth. The decomposition process takes a few weeks to a few months, depending on the nature of the soil.
And if you ever use them above ground, for example on a balcony, they also keep very well. Allow between 12 and 24 months for your biodegradable above-ground pot to degrade.
Fertilpot are ideal for all types of cultivation, whether for vegetable pots, flower pots or herbs. They offer an ecological alternative to plastic pots, reducing waste and enabling more natural, sustainable gardening.
Practical, isn’t it?
Please note! The term “biodegradable” is a generic one, used in these pages to encompass a range of virtuous, environmentally-friendly practices. However, companies wishing to promote these practices to consumers by making environmental claims on their products (labels, sales arguments, etc.) must use specific terms that clearly and fairly describe the nature of the advantages or benefits of the claimed practice. What are the ecological advantages of the biodegradable jar?
1. Reducing plastic waste
No more plastic pots that end up in the garbage can after planting. With biodegradable pots, there’s no more waste to throw away! They degrade naturally in the soil.
2. Improving plant growth
The biodegradable pot allows roots to grow through the walls of the container without the stress of repotting. The result? Better growth and an optimal recovery rate.
👉 Tip: To speed up degradation, you can slightly incise the bottom of the pot before planting, if the roots haven’t already taken care of it!
3. More natural gardening
Made from organic matter, biodegradable pots enrich the soil with nutrients once decomposed. They are chemical-free and suitable for use in organic farming, guaranteeing a healthier crop for your fruit, vegetables and flowers.
How do I use a biodegradable pot effectively?
Using a biodegradable pot isn’t rocket science, but it does require a few key steps to ensure optimal plant growth.
1. Preparing the jar
Fill the biodegradable pot with potting soil suitable for the chosen crop. A rich potting soil with a good balance between moisture retention and drainage is recommended.
Avoid packing the potting soil too tightly to facilitate air circulation. Don’t forget to moisten the container so it doesn’t dry out too quickly.
2. Sowing and germination
Sow your seeds or plant your seedling directly inside the pot. Then place it in a bright spot with a temperature of around 20ºC, and be sure to water regularly.
3. Transplanting seedlings into the ground
Is your plant starting to put out its first leaves? Are the roots getting bigger and bigger? Then it’s time to plant the biodegradable pot directly in the ground, to help your plant grow properly. Avoid touching the roots too much, to limit stress.
Make sure the pot is well buried, with its rim at least 1 cm below the surface of the soil, so that it doesn’t protrude.
4. Natural pot degradation
Over time, the biodegradable pot naturally decomposes and enriches the soil with organic matter, providing an ideal environment for root growth.
👉 Tip: To speed up degradation, you can slightly incise the bottom of the pot before planting, if the roots haven’t already taken care of it!
